The scenic Naldehra Golf Course, which bears resemblance to the Scottish links courses, is located about 22 km from Shimla. Measuring 4285 yards, this Par 68 course boasts of 18 holes, 16 greens and 18 tees. Established in the early 1900s, under the supervision of the former viceroy of India, Lord Curzon, this golf course initially had 9 holes, and is known to be one of the oldest in India.

Perched 2,200 m above sea level, Naldehra is one of the country’s most challenging golf courses. It covers a long sloping glade and is surrounded by countless Deodar trees from all sides. Bewitched by the boundless beauty of the golf club, Lord Curzon named his third daughter as Alexandra Naldehra.

History of the Naldehra Golf Course

One of the oldest golf courses in India, Naldehra Golf Course is the legacy of Lord Curzon, who visited this place in 1905. He was so mesmerized by the beauty of this place; he named his third daughter as Alexandra Naldehra after the place. He used to come here often and camp here for many days continuously. Eventually, he established a golf course on his camping site. Today, it is one of the most scenic golf courses in India. This golf course has considerable character with the wide view of the Himalayan ranges, which is surrounded by thick forests. The natural scenery becomes complete with an ancient temple near the golf greens which is built in the traditional style.

Originally, it was a 9 holes golf course with the same greens which were repeated with the different tees. But, with the time, the management realized the requirement of adding some diversity to the golf course. For this purpose, they added some more greens and tees without challenging or altering the topography of the course. Due to this addition, this course has become unique when it is compared to the other golf courses which you have visited for playing. It also offers the golfers to explore a unique character, a sense of the originality and the adventure which is rolled into a round of the golf game. From the golf player’s perspective, the experience and the challenge which is offered by the Naldehra Golf Club is very rare. This is definitely an experience which should be endured by all the golfers at the least once in a lifetime.
